Why Silence About Sex Education is Dangerous

Many parents and communities believe that avoiding sex education will “protect” children. In reality, silence is dangerous. It leaves young people unprepared for the real challenges they face.

Without proper education, teens often turn to unreliable sources — like peers or the internet — which spreads misinformation. This can lead to unsafe behavior, unwanted pregnancies, or even abuse.

Silence also creates shame. When children are told that sex is a forbidden topic, they feel guilty for their natural curiosity. This prevents them from asking questions and learning the truth.

On the other hand, open education provides clarity, confidence, and protection. It removes fear and replaces it with knowledge.

Ignoring the topic doesn’t keep children innocent — it keeps them vulnerable. That’s why silence about sex education is one of the biggest risks we can take.
